An Open-Door leadership style and its impact on your workplace culture
Whenever I've had an office, I've maintained an 'open door' policy. If my door is open, team members at any level are encouraged to walk in and talk. If I don't have an office, the same principle applies; just walk up to my desk, and I'll stop what I'm doing so we can chat. Becoming a great Leader ..... it takes more than just reading books!
I’ve got a lot of leadership and coaching books (approaching 100) that I’ve collected over the years in my various leadership roles. My collection is quite diverse; it includes some well-known leadership texts like Jim Collins' Good to Great, Peter Senge's The Fifth Discipline, and Patrick Lencioni's The 5 Dysfunctions of a Team. Your Defining Moment
We all have them; our own personal stories that define who we are. In some HS Leadership training courses that I have ran, I've shared a personal story about my first real experience of feeling the impact of being responsible for the health and safety of others. I was a young manager, responsible for managing a small, high-hazard chemical plant, with a team of 18 people.
